Burgher’s House opens for summer season

The oldest wooden house in the inner city will once again open its doors for the summer, taking visitors back to Helsinki in the 1860s.
The Burgher’s House Museum will open for the summer season on Saturday 2 May. There are traditional garden plants growing in the tiny courtyard of the oldest wooden house in the inner city, and the cosy museum invites you to experience the everyday life of a minor official in Helsinki in the 1860s. The hall, kitchen and two sleeping chambers are decorated in a way that brings the living conditions of the era to life.
A wide range of events in the summer
On Saturdays in early summer and on Helsinki Day 12 June, visitors will be able to enjoy funny causeries penned by Zachris Topelius about life in the young capital in the mid-19th century. Attention will also be given to the building’s last owner, the unconventional dance artist Martta Bröyer, whose story will be explored on special guided tours. On Sunday 26 July, we will once again be celebrating Martta’s name day.
Outdoor music sessions have become a popular summer Saturday tradition at the Burgher’s House Museum, with live music filling all corners of the atmospheric courtyard.
