Summer season at the Burgher’s House starts on 2 May
The Burgher’s House Museum located at the heart of Kruunuhaka will open its doors for the summer on Friday 2 May. Entry to the atmospheric home museum is always free, and the yellow gate leading to the small courtyard is open from Wednesday to Sunday at 11:00–17:00.
The lovely wooden house museum offers a look back in time at urban life in the 19th century – and this summer the museum is also hosting a variety of events for the whole family.
On opening weekend, 3 May, the museum will host a workshop where participants will have the opportunity to craft traditional braided birch bark rattles, i.e. rapapalli, and ship art in the spirit of the 19th century. In addition to this, on May Saturdays the museum will feature open Martta Bröyer special guided tours and nostalgic singalong sessions.
The series of summer courtyard concerts starts on Saturday 7 June. This summer’s featured acts include Ehivaija, who perform Finno-Ugric folk poetry; Dromos, who interpret traditional Greek music in Finnish; Kuokkavieraat, who uphold folk song traditions; and the Marino & Sunrise Orchestra, who play nostalgic schlager music.
On Helsinki Day, 12 June, the Finland in Songs outdoor concert will revive old Finnish songs. The singer and kantele player of the Opera Tellus collective will also shed light on the stories behind the music in English, allowing listeners to overcome the language barrier.
The late summer will culminate in the Night of the Arts on 14 August, when the whole family will get to enjoy old children’s songs and the museum atmosphere in the twilight.
Check out all the summer events.
