Christmas at the Burgher’s House
The Christmas season begins on Wednesday 29 November, when the small wooden house will be decorated with mid-19th century Christmas decorations. Visitors can enjoy the delicious scents of Christmas by the warmth of the kitchen stove, picturing hard-working pairs of hands baking gingerbread cookies. In the sleeping chamber, presents are being wrapped in small packages, closed with a seal and featuring a fun riddle. The small Christmas tree in the sitting room, decorated with candles and cookies, stands on the table, as is typical of the era.
On Sunday 10 December from 12:00 to 15:00, visitors can take part in 19th century Christmas preparations, try their hand at hairpin crochet and craft Christmas tree decorations. The double quartet of the Hämäläis-Osakunnan Laulajat will be performing Christmas-time tunes in the garden at 13:00 and 14:00. On two Saturdays, 2 and 16 December at 14:00, visitors can also make their own easy Christmas tree decorations according to genuine 19th century instructions. The Burgher’s House is open until 7 January.
Entry to all the Christmas events is free of charge.
